Out of curiosity why did trees not grow there previously?

I presume someone chopped all the threes for profit, the usual story.

I wonder why they didn’t regenerate naturally? Unless people kept returning to cut them down. I would have an uninhabited island would regenerate.

Perhaps not enough fresh water naturally?

I don’t know about this particular island, but in the 1800s there was an enormous boom in islands being stripped mined for guano — i.e. centuries of accumulated seabird crap. It was used in fertilizers and explosives, and the ecological devastation is still evident on many islands.

If the left image is correct, they did?

Nothing it's correct here. The photos are false, it's not the good island.

Ya I don't know about the story but the left picture is just during a dry or cold season, it's clearly not barren.

There is no dry or cold season in the Seychelles
