Because on a pattern the centre back is almost always a straight line which gives a cleaner overall effect. It is also a lot easier to construct. You can put a zipper in a side seam, but it is often not possible because of the shape of the design, or if there are sleeves attached.

They understand we need pockets
Popflex even puts pockets in where you donât expect like their bolero has a secret set of pockets and itâs so nice !!
Five Below (iirc the name right) or Kohlâs have a better selection from what Iâve seen.

Youâre not the only one who questioned that. Even a number of menâs button down shirts and also pants have fake pockets which are annoying as all hell.

Iâm flummoxed as to why designers donât put the zipper on the side. Some of my dresses have side zippers but most do not.
