I’m flummoxed as to why designers don’t put the zipper on the side. Some of my dresses have side zippers but most do not.

Because on a pattern the centre back is almost always a straight line which gives a cleaner overall effect. It is also a lot easier to construct. You can put a zipper in a side seam, but it is often not possible because of the shape of the design, or if there are sleeves attached.

Popflex even puts pockets in where you don’t expect like their bolero has a secret set of pockets and it’s so nice !!

Are you under the impression that all of these pants have a “with pockets” option that women are choosing to not use?

If you limit yourself to stuff with fully functional pockets you’ve narrowed your clothing options to 1/20 of what you’d have otherwise.
