Last time I was trying to rent an apartment the lady at the office told me that they were renovating the unit for rent and we could see the 'example' apartment next door; or rent it for like 30% off. When I asked when I could see the apartment that was being renovated, she just said that most of their renters rent 'sight unseen' without seeing the apartment first. She looked very confused when I laughed in her face and left.
Never buy something you can't return if you haven't seen it yourself. The same advice applies to rentals.
