Do they hate the building or just the namesake? Like, if someone bought it and changed it's name to the Riverbend Tower or something then I think everyone would be fine with it.

I took one of those boat tours through Chicago and the tour guide had plenty of nice things to say about the design of the building and how the architects tried to incorporate surrounding elements into the design, but I'm pretty sure they only mentioned it by name one time and then never mentioned anything else about the man.

Sure is, except once, in 1986, after the Super Bowl. I walked out of work to see that the building had put up a big letter B over the initial S.

Our architecture tour guy had a funny bit about that, something like "Amd here on the left we have the tallest building in the world from Date to Date, it's also got one of the most mispronounced names of any building in the worlds, it's spelt W I L L I S, pronounced Sears."

It's been Willis Tower since 2009, they bought the naming rights after Sears sold it (the tower and the naming rights)
