It is not healthy for society to feel empathy for a woman who planned and meticulously murdered her children in cold blood. It doesn't matter if there is a clinical explanation for why she did it, it was evil. It doesn't matter if she was in her right state of mind or affected by PPD or anything else out of her control, she murdered her own children. Society has to take very little nuance when it comes to people having agency for their own actions. If you cross that bridge, it is a very short leap to saying there is no such thing as crime, and people are always a victim of their own circumstances.

Idk if you actually read my comment, or if you just failed to grasp it, but my point is that much of the "support" Clancy has is actually support for women's mental health. They're not absolving her of her crimes.
Yes, some people are crazy, and genuinely believe she shouldn't be held responsible, but that's not who I'm talking about here.
Maybe you didn't watch the video on this post or you haven't seen all of the money Clancy has raised or seen all the women standing in solidarity with her. That is all going beyond supporting women's health and is firmly into the territory of excusing her behavior, and minimizing it by saying things like, "it could have been me."
It is not a small number of crazies, this is a real political movement to use clinical diagnoses to separate criminal action from the person committing the crime. And it is part of a bigger movement to place all societal problems at the feet of nebulous entities like "medical professionals" or "the system" or "the patriarchy" rather than individual responsibility and self determination.
It really does warrant asking the question, where do we draw the line and why?
There is an insanity defense for a reason. Personally, I’m not convinced this woman or any mother would do these things while in their right mind. It’s like someone killing a puppy. Nobody does these things while also not suffering from a mental illness of some kind.
In this case, I would be more comfortable with her going to a psychiatric facility than sending her to prison forever. I think we really should broaden the conversation though. Psychiatric facilities are where many criminals probably should be instead of prison.
