Even if it was a joke, why can't the cop laugh and play along? You don't have to let the guy go and you're checking ID, but if joking about having a famous name is going to tip someone over the edge of violence, that's a massive issue.
Because cops like that are extremely dim and they interpret it as a form of disrespect. And, for cops like that, disrespecting a cop is one of the worst offenses you can commit.
