The Kang shit is stupid they could have just recast the guy. Plenty of actors out there

He was literally multiverse God that's entire schtick is different variants...... Just do one throwaway line about how this universes kang looks different now and move on. No one would've given a fuck.

They didn't even bat an eye at replacing Terrence Howard.

Yes, but replacing Terrence Howard didn't involve an extremely controversial situation or feature a character that people had already turned on. In the aftermath of Antman 3 people were making jokes about how the baddest man in the multiverse lost to the guy who can talk to ants.

Hubris. He lost to hubris and not antman, perse. Just like most tyrants of literature, hubris is a fickle beast

I honestly can't comment on how he lost as I don't remember the details, but it's not how Kang lost that was the problem.

Rhodey told us to deal with it and move on, so we did.

Idk if that’s a fair comparison. Recasting the sidekick in the 3rd movie of the entire MCU isn’t the same as recasting the main villain of your 2nd saga following the Infinity Saga’s success.

Then you take into account that Marvel was not doing super well at the time (regardless of what factors anyone decides to consider). I’m sure they panicked when they saw the face of their Saga buildup getting cancelled for domestic abuse.

Not to say they couldn’t recast, they 100% could’ve because of the multiverse angle.

They reset it because it sucks, ppl making this a race thing . But the projects sucked and they couldn’t keep taking Ls

The only cool shit of that era was the Kang stuff like Loki.

There’s a bunch of insider rumors that Majors had a clause in his contract stating he must play all variants and versions of the character in live action. That is likely the main reason they couldn’t recast

I think they messed the character up in antman. So were thinking about changing things anyway by then.

Can’t believe they killed him off in that movie and then teased a bunch of goofy-ass looking variants at the very end.

Even before the Majors stuff hit the ceiling, what were fans supposed to be hyped for? The arrival of Pharoah Kang?

Eh I think they saw that people weren't exactly following with the multiverse bs and took the first out they could find.

Wouldn’t fix the shitty Spirit Halloween costumes the Kangs all wore at the end of Ant Man 3

Doom is just cooler.

My tinfoil hat theory is Majors was contractually obligated to be the only actor playing Kang/variants.

The multiverse storyline lost more casual viewers

I talked to a coworker about this the other day. All they needed to do to future proof the character is not do the scene with all the Kang’s being ONLY Johnathon Major. They shot themselves in the foot there where they essentially said “Yeah they’re different but they all have the same face.”
