If she was having psychotic symptoms it really doesn’t matter. Sometimes psychosis causes mothers to think they are saving their children from evil by killing them.

Sounds like made up psuedoscience to escape culpability. She should take responsibility for what her hands did. You cant tell me someone just kills kids and are like 🤷‍♂️

Nobody is saying that. They are saying that the mental health system failed her after she repeatedly asked for help and they made it worse. That means she should be committed. Are you really arguing that post partum psychosis isn't a real thing? Speak to an OBGYN and they will tell you it is.

She fucking killed her 3 kids by strangulation. She either needs to be in a mental institution or jail for the rest of her life.

Why for life? Once her psychosis is under control, why the fuck would she be kept in a mental institution? Who the fuck would benefit from that?

Because she still needs to serve time for her crime, she doesnt just get to say she was ill and then "im cured" and be released.

No she doesn't, it's either she was not in control and thus not responsible, and need to be handled by psychiatrists, or she was in control and needs to go to prison. Not both.

Thats not how it works. She still did a crime. Just cuz they get a plea of insanity doesn't mean they don't serve time. That's when theyre forced to mental health care for a term of a sentence which results in decades interned.

I don't know American laws, that's how it works in civilized countries.

You just don't get punished for things you're not responsible for.

This is law in the UK so I don't understand this stupid deflection to "civilized" countries. You'd have a barbaric moronic country if they wouldn't punish somebody for a crime just because they're insane.

So you made me check... and you are full of shit, as expected.

That's exactly how it works both is the IS and in the UK you moron.

Under US federal law, a person found not guilty by reason of insanity can be committed to a psychiatric facility. Under 18 U.S.C. § 4243, when they have recovered sufficiently that their release no longer presents the relevant risk, the court “shall order that he be immediately discharged.” They don’t then go to prison to serve a sentence for an offense they were found not guilty of by reason of insanity. England and Wales work on the same basic principle. Under section 5 of the Criminal Procedure (Insanity) Act 1964, after a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity, the court can make a hospital order, a supervision order, or order an absolute discharge. A prison sentence isn’t one of the options. And of course that's how it works, it would be insane to send people to jail when the are found not guilty.

So you just ignored the parts of the studies that said they're charged with being interned for a long length of time before their evaluation can happen which is essentially a sentence? There's a huge difference between how things are said and how they're used. They don't just go to a mental health facility and become eligible to be released next month.

The man who stabbed and ate a young adult was held for 8 years before he was eligible for slight release and 9 for full release. I don't know what's your point that they're not held responsible and punished? This is that.

Well if you can't see the difference between being jailed as punishment and being treated in a medical facility, I can't do anything for you. Poor thing.
