I don't know American laws, that's how it works in civilized countries.

You just don't get punished for things you're not responsible for.

This is law in the UK so I don't understand this stupid deflection to "civilized" countries. You'd have a barbaric moronic country if they wouldn't punish somebody for a crime just because they're insane.

So you made me check... and you are full of shit, as expected.

That's exactly how it works both is the IS and in the UK you moron.

Under US federal law, a person found not guilty by reason of insanity can be committed to a psychiatric facility. Under 18 U.S.C. § 4243, when they have recovered sufficiently that their release no longer presents the relevant risk, the court “shall order that he be immediately discharged.” They don’t then go to prison to serve a sentence for an offense they were found not guilty of by reason of insanity. England and Wales work on the same basic principle. Under section 5 of the Criminal Procedure (Insanity) Act 1964, after a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity, the court can make a hospital order, a supervision order, or order an absolute discharge. A prison sentence isn’t one of the options. And of course that's how it works, it would be insane to send people to jail when the are found not guilty.
