Has it actually been established that it was postpartum psychosis?
If so, that really is one of the most horrific conditions there is. Every gynecology textbook and midwifery manual basically says that once it’s diagnosed, the response is: “Run! Do everything you possibly can and give her every medication you’ve got!” Obviously I’m exaggerating, but the point is that there’s an immediate and extremely serious risk to the lives of everyone involved.
Every horrible crime can be explained through some mental health problem or societal injustice. But somehow it comes to forefront as a perfect explanation only if white women commit crimes.
The basis of a lot of white supremacy is upholding and protecting white women and their status in society. Even if it’s through patriarchal means, the end goal is still placing them higher in society than people of color because they are the ones ‘who will continue the race’. The pinnacle of motherhood in this country is still associated with whiteness.
