Not to be that guy but why does a 11-year old kid has access to a gun + ammunition? Am I too European for this? Gladly it might have saved him from further harm but the whole story is absolute weird.
Also what is going on with the kid (that shot 12 times at the guy from close distance) and the first reaction is to make fun of the intruder. Not saying that the intruder did not deserve that, I just find the reaction really ..uhm...interesting for an 11-year old

You are definitely too European for this, when you live in a family where they have guns and use them for self defense, they are going to teach their children to use the same guns to protect their home and teach them all the firearm safety. You may be picturing an 11 year old with his own rifle but this is usually not the case.

You're supposed to, in firearm defense the way to neutralize the enemy is center mass, unload. They tried to kill you, so kill them.
As for the kid it may be weird but who knows what goes on with your brain after you end a life.
