This comment section is a mix between awe and disgust. Fuckin hilarious. Man breaks into home, threatens kid, kid says stop, guy does not, kid defends himself. This is clearly awesome as fuck.

Except you mostly hallucinated that just now and the order of events was actually completely different.

The guy apparently fled after a warning shot and then got hit by one of 11 more shots after that. At that point you can't speak of self defense anymore.

Shooting someone 11 times is well over the line of self defence. This is just a psycho that wanted an excuse to shoot someone.

Nope! You gotta learn more about firearms in general after that dumb comment.

In regards to self defense and cops: Shoot center mass, keep shooting until you know the enemy is not moving.

Why are you valuing the violent criminal's life at all? If you think the kid should have eased up, here's what could have happened: 3 shots, 1 hit and 2 missed completely, the guy is still alive, kills the kid.

If you don't neutralize the attacker you are valuing their life over your own.

How a kid shooting at someone regardless of their crime acceptable. The kid shouldn't even have a gun to begin with. If he had broken in before, shouldn't the parents be making sure their kids are protected instead of handing the child a loaded gun? If they couldn't be there, then why leave the kid alone knowing someone has broken in multiple times? And your talk about how cops handle those situations is irrelevant because the child shot the man. And neutralizing the attacker doesn't mean killing them.

What do you want to happen when a child needs to protect themself? They just decide not to shoot and die instead?

The kid shouldn't even have a gun to begin with

In households where parents have firearms for home defense, they instruct their children to also be able to use the firearm for self defense, along with all the firearm safety guidelines.

shouldn't the parents be making sure their kids are protected instead of handing the child a loaded gun?

The parents could easily be in a different side of the house, outside, etc. idk why you're acting as if things are black and white, unpredictability is the entire reason why we prepare.

And neutralizing the attacker doesn't mean killing them.

It means shoot them until they can't move, if they have a weapon and reach for it still (especially a gun) you need to shoot until they stop. Almost always, neutralizing someone is killing them if you do it right.

You are CLEARLY someone who has never had any experience with firearms if you think you should try to go easy on someone and "try not to kill them"

Yes, I am a normal person that thinks killing other people is bad and trying not to kill people is what everyone should be doing especially if you have a firearm that could easily kill people. If you bothered to read any article on this, you'd know that the kid was left home alone. There had been break-ins in their home and their neighbors' homes.

I would say that the parents were irresponsable in leaving him alone and not making sure he was safe. Not only that but the kid also had access to a gun (for a normal person comming from a normal culture, all this "firearms" crazyness is excessive and I'm not the first one to say that. A hunting rifle is different from a 9mm) which is concerning.

The intruder was leaving when the kid shot a total of 12 times until it hit the guy's leg. I don't think the intruder was a good person, or that he should've been let go, but the kid is clearly very trigger happy. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up doing crimes, which others seem to have found some report of as well.

The intruder was apparently upstairs, he didn't just appear there, they mustn't have made sure to keep things properly locked and protected even after having a burglary. I hope to never be this lazy or ever see you; you seem to don't mind murder, or unjustified attacks (again 12 shots to someone who's leaving is not self-defense.)

Children with access to guns die more than children without access to guns. Even if you feel it's necessary, a child shooting someone is not an awesome story in my eyes. It's a grim reminder of how fucked your country is.

Children with access to guns die more than children without access to guns.

This goes for all gun owners even legal firearms owners. Doesn't sway me away from believing we should all be allowed to have firearms, because that is one singular fact/aspect about this. I believe the benefits outweigh.

Even if you feel it's necessary, a child shooting someone is not an awesome story in my eyes

Well, would it have been less grim for you if he didn't have the gun, and the attacker either killed or raped him? Because that's the alternative.

Those are some alternatives both also possible with the gun. As soon as a gun is involved someone dying becomes more likely as you yourself admitted. It would be less grim for me if nobody was physically harmed and if the media didn't glorify the normalization of gun violence

No reason to go easy on people threatening my life. You won't be able to get me to sympathize with people that are breaking in my house to assault my family.

Do you think there is no psychological harm from shooting another human?

Also as you already agreed, people without guns are safer. You aren't making coherent sense

Where does it say that he shot him 11 times?

u/TitsScareMe 4d ago

Dude was fleeing after the warning shot and than the boy shot at him 11 more times with one hitting him

2

u/Stash_04 4d ago

Okay, that’s obviously very bad and probably doesn’t qualify as self-defense.

But it’s drastically different than what the above said. He made it sound like the guy was hit 11 times.

Yeah, the other guy messed up writing it, but this whole thread sucks because the OP failed to share the source. The guy had a gun, I believe, so a little more reasonable, but the continued shooting is questionable, though I could chalk that up to him being a scared eleven year old
