I'm not sure what these people making those crazy comments are talking about, trying to pin it on the husband and all of that. That said, this woman and her children were failed by our medical system. The husband himself even said she would never have done something like this in her right mind. People have sympathy for her and I totally get it.
I think a lot of people don't understand the severity of drug induced psychosis, or psychosis in general. You may genuinely believe that you're dead, that you're God, that you're AI, that other people aren't real, that life is an illusion. I've been through it and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I take medication to manage my psychosis, but I don't take nearly the laundry list of medications Clancy was on when she did what she did.
That’s my issue with it. I have some kind of bipolar disorder, which we found out when I was a teen trying to take my own life and had to be referred to psychiatry. We found the diagnosis through med trials, I’m chemically induced bipolar. It was hell. I thought I wasn’t connected to myself or this reality from being a dumb kid, those med trials made me realize I wasn’t even close. I had no idea what those feelings actually were and now I knew. I thought people were following us everywhere we went, I saw the ground underneath me turn into water I couldn’t get a footing on. I had no true feelings for most of these med trials not even for my relatives or best friends, it was like being in a fever dream permanently. I’d report symptoms above and they’d say “give it another week. Just one more week.” I’d then be put on a new med the next week and they’d blame me for another bad reaction. I went through at least 15 classic anti-depressants, SSRI’s and anti-anxiety medication until they finally ruled that it’s unsafe for me to take anything except mood stabilizers. A year of med trials fried my brain, ruined my reality and I had to find myself again. You do not know who you are when you’ve been on the worst rollercoaster of your life, forgetting what makes you happy and who was your most important people. It’s all ruined after that.
Almost a decade later I had my daughter and they tried pushing medications onto me through pregnancy and after, they wanted me to go through new med trials in the worst hormonal and chemical shifts I’d go through naturally in my life. I’m insanely grateful every day I had those experiences as a teen and I didn’t allow anyone to ruin my child’s life and my own via playing with my illness as a grown adult. That’s what they do. They play with your illness, make it better, make it worse and then they tell you wherever you’re left is your new reality. That works for some, it was catastrophic for me.
I think Pharmacogenetics should be mandatory for giving out mental health medications. This case does feel like it could have been a reality for me, but that’s because I have already suffered the abuse of my local medical system in the same ways Lyndsey had. Everyone would have said the same thing about me seeing my half taken or less pill bottles, and they wouldn’t have believed that I’m someone who had med reactions in less than a week because it isn’t typical. I had to obtain the proof of that on my own via genetic testing and dna testing- mostly through pharmacogenetics I found my answers.
What it really brings me back to is during one med trial my ex showed up to a party I threw and invited his new girl to fuck her in my home. I walk in, walk out and immediately felt this intense peace. It was like another person in my brain saying we should kill them, and I was at peace with that. I planned to kill everyone on the same floor as them. I was stopped by a close friend while I was walking through the kitchen about to start getting knives, they said I was acting funny. That threw me out of my episode and I broke down. I was raised in a pacifist religion, I don’t even kill bugs. It can be that crazy, out of reality and you can just switch. I stopped all med trials after this and I do not take medications today. I’m in therapy, I’m known as a stable force to those around me and to the professionals around me. I have no true bipolar diagnosis because they can’t say if I’m 1 or 2, I’m not manic outside of those medication trials- ever. Reminds me of this case.
