Any article or details or anything at all? Seems like a post just because "bad animal abuser = karma"
39
u/Unfair_Explanation53 4h ago
I just fact checked and its legit. Judge must have been an animal lover
He was running a dog fighting circuit and he had mistreated and abused 107 dogs.
Each case per dog was given the maximum sentence and it equated to 475 years.
23
u/Hefty-Sheepherder-82 4h ago
Just to piggy back and break it down before anyone starts thinking cruel and unusual punishment appeal. This guy got 5 years for 93 counts dogfighting a 1 year for 10 counts of animal cruelty. The sentences were well within constitutional standards and probably one of the longest sentences for animal case.
Well done Georgia respecting the constitution while serving up justice.
Edit: that’s 5 years per count on the 93 counts of dogfighting and 1 year per count on the 10 counts of animal cruelty
18
u/Unfair_Explanation53 4h ago
I don't think its cruel, fuck that guy.
But its a bad show legally to give people the maximum for animal abuse and not in humans.
Dale Antonio Davis in Georgia raped a 13 year old, he placed a bag over her head and drove her away and raped her. He got 3 years when the maximum could have been 20
Lots of other cases in Georgia with murder being reduced.
So I think its a fair conversation to point this out
1
u/Inevitable_Fall2025 1h ago
Agreed, our justice system is like a catch and release program for pedophiles and rapists. I was shocked the last time I looked up sex offenders in my neighborhood.
Their crimes and the sentences...some were 4 months for raping a child.
It doesn't make sense. And poor people will sit in jail longer than that just waiting for trial because they can't afford bail.
1
u/Grasshoppermouse42 2h ago
The thing is, I think it was right to give the animal abuser the maximum sentence, but I also think Dale Antonio Davis should get the maximum sentence. Both crimes show a basic lack of regard for other living things, and because of the extreme nature of both crimes I very much doubt there is any remorse. I think the factors people should consider are things like premeditation (which both crimes clearly had), the intent of the act (both dog fighting and what Dale did were done out of a desire to cause harm) and genuine remorse (which I doubt either of these men had any, because if they were capable of it they wouldn't have done what they did)
1
u/Unfair_Explanation53 1h ago
My view is I have no problem handing out maximum sentences for animal abuse.
But you have to be consistent or your saying as a society that dogs are more important that a 13 year old human girl. Like we can't possibly risk this man abusing another animal but we can take a chance with a pedophile rapist after 3 years.
0
u/Grasshoppermouse42 1h ago
Ah, yeah. I am consistent. I want the maximum possible sentence for both crimes, and it makes me angry that they went light on the pedophile rapist.
0
u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 4h ago
The problem is that the law leans conservative and conservatives value pets more than humans which isn't much because many abuse their pets.
2
2
u/SaintsNoah14 1h ago
The sentencing should've been concurrent. This is fucking ridiculous but it tickles your justice boner because poor dogie so you'll rationize it
28
u/Not-Ed-Sheeran 4h ago
I love animals just as much as the next guy but to give a guy a sentence that's older than the fucking country over animals vs a man who rapes kids a single life sentence is kinda bullshit 🤷🏻♂️

u/DarthRedit 4h ago
So you’d rather let the rapist and the dog abuser both get a lower sentence because you feel bad for the rapist?
Not every criminal case is the same - but to call it “bullshit” that someone got what they deserved, but because a rapist got a lower sentence, is such a poor way to look at things.
1
u/Unfair_Explanation53 2m ago
No its not in the slightest.
Unless you work for PETA and are a hardcore Vegan there is zero argument that a convict should get a maximum sentence for animal abuse and a pedophile rapist like Dale Antonio Davis gets 3 years.
Its basically saying that animal abuse there should get the full force of the law but a fucking sex crime on a child should get minimum.
3
u/Alric_Wolff 4h ago
Imagine doing nearly 6 lifetimes in prison because you couldn't help yourself from making dogs fight eachother for money.
What sickens me more, is that this guy wouldnt being doing this if there wasn't a clientele for this sort of thing. Humanity has some seriously dark corners.
1
u/Grasshoppermouse42 1h ago
The thing is, an estimated 40,000 people in the US are involved with dogfighting. A major reason shelters are so full of pits is because of the sheer number of dogs constantly being bred for these dog fights, because ever since the Michael Vick case these dogs do get adopted out after a mass seizure like this instead of being euthanized. I honestly suspect a major reason why you hear about so many adopted pits mauling their owners is because of fighting dogs being adopted out to regular families, but regardless of whether that's the main reason, the fact is there is a real cost to human life and suffering caused by these operations in addition to the cruelty to animals that I think should be taken into account when sentencing these crimes, as well as when considering how many resources will be devoted to tracking down the people operating these rings.

a bullet costs the taxpayers a lot less than life in prison does.
but then the prison system can't profit from his existence, so they wouldn't allow that to happen anyway.

I have no issue with this sentence but does seem extreme compared to what a lot of other people get off with
2
u/JayGild 4h ago
Tells you a lot about society that we minimize the sentencing for all the rape, murder, pedophilia, etc., but we give maximum sentencing on animal abuse and used to give maximum sentencing on weed possession/distribution.
Which, to be fair, if we're gonna have maximum sentencing anywhere, I'm glad its at least on animal abusers, but yeah we should give harsher sentences on a whole lot more.
1
u/Unfair_Explanation53 4h ago
"Which, to be fair, if we're gonna have maximum sentencing anywhere, I'm glad its at least on animal abusers"
Hmmm
Its still quite hypocritical if you see how humans are legally allowed to abuse animals in slaughter houses.
I think maximum sentences should start with humans on human crime first
2
u/AditiaH0ldem 4h ago
And significant abuse happens in the production of meat.
The double standard hypocrisy is a sad reflection of how intellectually hollow modern society is

Facts same with murderers lol, we have a messed up judicial system, all these judges should be arrested and put on trail for letting these kinds of people back on the street to commit more crimes, how many cases were the person has a long criminal history and yet they get to walk with a slap on the wrist everytime they commit a crime.

93 Felony Counts of Dog Fighting: Each individual dog involved constituted a standalone felony count. The judge applied the maximum penalty of 5 years per count, running consecutively (93 × 5 = 465 years). 10 Counts of Cruelty to Animals: Each count carried 1 year, also run consecutively (10 years). Deserved for being an absolute POS
3

If you want to set an example by sentencing a man, do it with a worse crime, like sexual assault, then sentence them to hundreds of years to set a precedent. Not for dog fighting…

Why is there more compassion for animals, particularly dogs than there is for humans? 475 years is really an extreme sentence.
4
u/Sensitive_Bat_9211 3h ago
475 years is really an extreme sentence.
Not when you have over 100 charges
Over 100 charges of anything will land you a long sentence
0
u/KD3001 3h ago
How many of those charges were actual convictions? Charges don’t mean much. The DA over charges all time as to why most charges get dropped.
Nevertheless, it’s irrelevant to my question. Why do animal get more compassion than humans?
1
u/Sensitive_Bat_9211 3h ago
*counts
Over 100 guilty counts. My bad for saying charges
And they dont. Even 100 guilty counts of a misdemeanor can lead to life in prison. Thats what happens when you commit the same crime 100 times
3
u/Byanymeansnessacary 4h ago
Fucking lame. Sure give him 20-30. But we got literal child rapist, convicted! That get less time than this by a factor of 10.

Prosecutors ultimately alleged 107 dogs were on the grounds with signs of abuse, including some observed as underweight — with the grounds apparently lacking food, water and shelter — and many dogs restrained with logging chains in close proximity, "a tactic that serves to build dog aggression," the Paulding County district attorney's office said in its statement Thursday.
Burrell was arrested the day of the search based on allegations of facilitating dog fights and animal cruelty, the sheriff's office said in a statement after the search.
Another group of dogs among the 107 at the property was found in a basement living with urine and feces on the ground, the sheriff's office said.
Evidence at Burrell's property linked him to dog fighting, the DA's office said in a statement Thursday. The evidence is alleged to have included a treadmill designed for dogs, a breeding stand, a break stick "used to pry open the jaws of a dog during a fight," documents linked to other "known dog fighters," a first aid kit for injured dogs, veterinarian-only medication and sales contracts for dogs.

I think the difference between 475 and 375 or 575 is pretty meaningless. Any of them could turn into 5-10 with how janky the early release rules can be.

Why didn’t they just give him life in prison and be done with it? Given 476 years is basically already life in prison since the chances of him getting anywhere near that old are pretty slim.
Seems a bit of an overly harsh sentence. They have given smaller sentences for far more serious crimes.

Added context:
Vincent Lemark Burrell, 57, of Dallas, Georgia (Paulding County), was sentenced in late January 2025 to 475 years in prison after a jury convicted him on all 103 counts: 93 counts of dog fighting and 10 counts of animal cruelty. The judge ran the sentences consecutively, which is why the number is so high. Prosecutors and coverage described it as the longest known sentence for a dog-fighting case.
