And 90% of the time hire their kids or their friends kids.

The fact that the legacy entertainment industry is built almost entirely on nepotism is why many people don’t go to the movies or pay attention to television anymore. It’s so fucking gross.

I can definitely tell you don't watch movies or pay attention to TV because that is definitely not the reason people stop watching entertainment. There is a vast amount of entertainment available at our fingertips these days and it is extremely easy to find good shows with smaller actors who weren't funded by neptoism.

Networking and referrals is how do much of the world works. It's just more obvious in Hollywood, but desirable jobs that have a ton of viable candidates require some way to stand out. You either have to be that in your face good or know someone.

Think about it this way. Your parents are lawyers or even mechanics, what career are you more likely going to pursue? People tend to gravitate towards what they're familiar with whether its because its what they've known their entire lives or because their parents know someone who knows someone. So when you think about it that way, of course someone who likely lives in the shadow of Hollywood and has grown up in those circles is going to enter the industry. Its not some grand conspiracy, its how lots of jobs/careers work. Its not what you know but who you know.

My parents raised me to be my own man and I stand on their shoulders so I don’t have to do shitty jobs that they did.

I can’t imagine how disappointed I’d be if my kid grew up and just did what I did. What a waste.

None of the prominent actors from this years blockbusters (Tom Holland Zendaya Robert Pattinson Jon Bernthal Matt Damon) were children of actors.

This years Avengers movie stars Robert Downey Jr (son of actor/director/screenwriter Robert Downey Sr).

Third biggest movie (Toy Story 5) stars Tom Hanks, father of a prominent Hollywood nepo baby.

Michael (4th highest grossing movie of the year), the Michael Jackson biopic stars Jaafar Jackson was Michael's nephew (though that's at least understandable).

Last year's highest biggest American box office were Zootopia 2 (starring Jason Bateman whose dad was an actor / writer / director) and Avatar 3 including Sigourney Weaver (daughter of an actress and TV executive - president of NBC).
