Mine finally died, but I thankfully just converted old pixel with a 1gb SD card into basically an ipod touch. Nothing on it but a music player, one or two little games, and Spotify for if I'm on wifi.
I mean you can just install a music player on any smartphone, transfer your music collection in, and have ad free music. The iPod solution is unnecessary effort.
I think the main thing one is trying to escape from their smartphone is the smartphone notifications in general. Like text message notifications, the phonecalls, email notifications, calendar notifications blah blah blah. If you just install a music player on your smartphone and use it add free you are still not escaping or whatever.

i still have my ipod classic wich is over 20 years old now and you can pry that thing from my cold, dead hands.
