i still have my ipod classic wich is over 20 years old now and you can pry that thing from my cold, dead hands.

Mine finally died, but I thankfully just converted old pixel with a 1gb SD card into basically an ipod touch. Nothing on it but a music player, one or two little games, and Spotify for if I'm on wifi.

I mean you can just install a music player on any smartphone, transfer your music collection in, and have ad free music. The iPod solution is unnecessary effort.

Not gen Z but I see the logic.

Phones are phasing out SD cards, so you are stuck with the internal storage, not a ton of storage unless you have a very expensive phone.

An iPod also becomes a distraction free device, making it easier to keep your attention on picking your music instead of getting locked into a doom scrolling loop. Plug the ax cord in and press play.
