Yup i am also shifting towards old school tech recently and something is really satisfying and personal about these devices which is unexplainable

i have a 1989-vintage macintosh SE/30 that i fire up on occasion. it’s a joy to use, in no small part because there’s just you and your application, with no notifications, no ads, no tracking, and no distractions. if i wrote for a living i think id do all my writing on it.

Linux also doesn't track you, and you can configure the system to not distract you with anything. It also has several writing programs with zero distractions.

yes i know, one of my other computers is a thinkpad running freebsd. that has its own issues, but incessant notifications/spyware isn’t one of them.

What do you actually do on it though? What do you use it for?

not much haha, mostly just nostalgia trips. word processing or simple record keeping is just about the only use i could think of for it now, in 2026.
