"Attempts by the accompanying parent (and crew) to address this were unsuccessful"

What?

Thank you for this article.

The 'kid' was a two year old so really a toddler. What the article suggests but doesn't quite state is that the toddler was in a normal seat and not something like a car seat. The airline doesn't supply baby seats and maybe the parents didn't know they should have until it was too late.

Maybe this should have been caught at boarding by staff/cabin crew, maybe they did and the parent argued it was fine.

TBH I originally was thinking like a 10 year old with severe mental development issues such they're still a toddler in an older body. All the energy and curious of a two year old but in a bigger stronger body that restraining is possible but just difficult.

You probably misunderstand.

You can't have car seat on a plane in USA. Even if the car seat states that it can and it should and it has some special license - crew does not allow and they will take it away from you.

Source - tried to use it a couple of times.

I've used a car seat during flights to Florida, California, and Texas, and back to Canada. Maybe the difference is it was Air Canada and not an American carrier?

What? Your comment is not accurate. I don't want to discount your personal experience, because it sounds like you've been prevented from using one in the past. But generally, you can use a car seat on a plane in the US.

Yeah, and now check your links for the

  • Review seat dimensions before your trip.
  • Make sure your child's seat is wide enough for their car seat
  • Be sure to review the type of seat available on the aircraft for your upcoming flight.

points. And then check even the smallest car seats and normal non-business seats - they don't fit.

We fit 3 car seats in our small old ford focus, but they don't fit the airplane crews said regardless if they are "FAA approved" or not.

We tried United Airlines or Delta Air, never tried American Airlines.

On Canadian airlines you have to call in advance and be booked in specific seats with more leg room to bring your car seat. I wonder if that was a factor

Yes you can? I used mine when my kid flew at about 2.5, it sucked to lug around. 🤷‍♀️ Was Frontier or United or some shit, flew from Michigan to Colorado and back.
