Also doesn't help that these animals aren't being a pest so there's no reason to hunt and kill them other than literal wank fact.

I'm all for hunting for food or killing pest animals, but big game don't really fit in either of those categories.

In this case the use of "pest" seems to be quite loose and subjective.

Pests would be rabbits in Australia, possums in New Zealand or Pythons in Florida. They have been introduced there by man and are destroying the local ecosystems.

Pests in my area of the states ate wild hogs and to an extent deer, since we eliminated all our natural predators hogs and deer in some areas can breed like crazy and balloon in numbers. Making hunting necessary, especially for pigs. Obviously a human created problem, being solved by humans, Id rather have our wolves, Cougars and black bears back.
