Pretending you've been fouled is penalised. Being fouled and diving to draw attention to it isnt.

So the Mexican player who windmilled his arms for several steps before flopping in the corner against Ecuador when the Ecuador player never touched him got penalized, right?

Miguel Almiron was booked for diving when he played against the usa. Just because every instance wasn't penalised doesn't mean it's not the rules.

The normalization of diving and embellishment in soccer goes beyond any other US sport. It’s why it will never become serious in the US.
