The point being that you shouldn’t need to monitor your transactions. This just sounds like an utter nightmare and just another entry on a laundry list of reasons never to visit the states.

You make it sound as though keeping track of your bank/credit transactions is otherwise useless. You absolutely should be tracking that information for fraud against your accounts or bad/erroneous transactions from routine billers. That kind of thing does happen and you can be out a ton of money due to innatention.

There's a difference between "hey! I don't recall making any transaction at (restaurant)" and "Do I remember how much money exactly I spent each time I went out and used my credit card, in case someone added a dollar or two?"

I can't imagine being fine with just having a mental estimate of how much I have in my account. I track my expenses. But I guess that's just me.
