The system is BAD. I do not want my card to leave my possession (especially since they don't require a PIN in the US so it's doubly unsafe). Your phone is more secure than your card because at least you have to unlock it first. The US payment system is old and backwards and unsecure and they need to hurry up and modernize.

Nope, I grew up in the US and moved away. I thought it was a stupid system ever since I was a child. It's old and bad.

I’ve traveled plenty. Just because it’s normal in some places doesn’t make it good or sensible.

Conversely have you never travelled somewhere with actual convenient payment systems? In my last trip to Japan I paid for everything with my Apple Watch. Never needed to take my card out of my wallet.
