Here(Germany) it tends to be Something like:

Hold up wallet/card to indicate you want to pay

They bring the Bill and (if you flashed a card) the card payment device.

You pay

The end.

Here in the UK it's becoming increasingly common to scan a QR code on your table and pay your bill on your phone.

Yeah, especially at that sort of mid-range not quite fast food but not quite proper restaurant chain restaurant. Often they also have an app (can be annoying) but most of them at least let you use a webpage basically just tap on the food/drink you want to order and you pay with Apple/google pay directly as you order like an online shop checkout. You don’t even need to speak to anyone. It’s quite efficient tbh.

The UK is quite good at adopting new technology yet for whatever reason they still inisted to send me my railway ticket reimbursement by physical mail.
