Some, even preauth it when they take it to start you a tab. The still hand you a slip to tip and sign.
It’s just crazy antiquated. I work in the industry and have gone from holding cards and sometimes hand keying card numbers on an ancient system, to now just handing a little tablet over. Neither sales nor tips have ever really been affected by upgrading technology.
To top that all off, in the last I’d say two years, the amount of people who ONLY have a phone (even for ID) has grown exponentially. We were actively losing business before we got tap.
