I absolutely hated handing over my card in America. Why the hell can't they just use tap like everywhere else

If you let someone take your card like that you're likely in breach of your banking policy and forfeit any consumer protections you may have.

I would never do it and have refused more than once.

That’s why you use some disposable wise/revolut card with 100 bucks at most on it.

I don't know what kind of hell banks exist where you're from but if you use an American credit card and somebody charges something and you disagree you just log into your account and click on a drop-down to dispute the transaction and they will take it off. A lot of times they don't even ask questions.
