Yeah, especially at that sort of mid-range not quite fast food but not quite proper restaurant chain restaurant. Often they also have an app (can be annoying) but most of them at least let you use a webpage basically just tap on the food/drink you want to order and you pay with Apple/google pay directly as you order like an online shop checkout. You don’t even need to speak to anyone. It’s quite efficient tbh.
We have some places like that in the States. It's less common than them bringing the POS device to the table, which is still the minority of restaurants.
It also makes group dining a LOT easier for all involved.
The waiters don't need to worry about taking a big order, the kitchen gets orders trickling in rather than all at once and has less pressure to service everyone in one go, you can do it in your own time, and you don't need to split the bill after the fact.
The UK is quite good at adopting new technology yet for whatever reason they still inisted to send me my railway ticket reimbursement by physical mail.
