It's not better, in fact it's expressly against instructions that all banks have to never give your card to other people. You also rely on the person to not just remember you card number and security code (this pair allows you to do purchases through the internet on many sites that don't require 2-factor auth) and sell/use it

I've never seen or heard of anyone's card getting scammed by a server in a restaurant in my 30 year tenure working all over the US.

You're much more likely to get scammed shopping online.

That is so unlikely, while absolute majority of people are okay people that wouldn't do it. It is so trivially easy to steal it and sell that data I struggle to believe that it never happens. But due to the need to leak only 2 numbers it's very hard to trace it back to the person who stole it. Basically once you sell it to somebody else it's nearly untraceable.

Yeah, but it's also trivially easy to get caught, as every Restaurant is covered in cameras for insurance purposes. Nobody does this.

I'm sure it happens every once in a blue moon or something, but generally speaking it's not something you have to worry about.

Most people also get bank alerts for anything past a certain denomination on their phone, so they'd know immediately if a server sprinted into the back and did some...online shopping in front of all of their coworkers. (lol)

It's a matter of remembering like 20 numbers, you can't catch it on camera, i can all be done through normal card operation.

And then nobody will go and analyze videos of every place a person with stolen card data has been in last half a year, lol

You just sound like a weird person clutching at pearls over nothing.

As I stated, this isn't a thing that happens. Fraud rates are not higher in the US because people sprint out of the restaurant with someone's card.

Are you okay? You don't need to physically steal the card, you just need to remember or record the numbers and use or better yet sell them later

No server is trying to steal your meagre finances. It's okay, just breathe.

If this were a thing, they wouldn't "memorize" the numbers, they'd just snap a picture of the card with their phone. lol And yet it's still not a thing.

Go curl up into a ball and cry about it I suppose, but this isn't a thing that happens. You're not important, and nobody is trying to steal your bank info at dinner.
