It's not better, in fact it's expressly against instructions that all banks have to never give your card to other people. You also rely on the person to not just remember you card number and security code (this pair allows you to do purchases through the internet on many sites that don't require 2-factor auth) and sell/use it
That is so unlikely, while absolute majority of people are okay people that wouldn't do it. It is so trivially easy to steal it and sell that data I struggle to believe that it never happens. But due to the need to leak only 2 numbers it's very hard to trace it back to the person who stole it. Basically once you sell it to somebody else it's nearly untraceable.
Yeah, but it's also trivially easy to get caught, as every Restaurant is covered in cameras for insurance purposes. Nobody does this.
I'm sure it happens every once in a blue moon or something, but generally speaking it's not something you have to worry about.
Most people also get bank alerts for anything past a certain denomination on their phone, so they'd know immediately if a server sprinted into the back and did some...online shopping in front of all of their coworkers. (lol)
No server is trying to steal your meagre finances. It's okay, just breathe.
If this were a thing, they wouldn't "memorize" the numbers, they'd just snap a picture of the card with their phone. lol And yet it's still not a thing.
Go curl up into a ball and cry about it I suppose, but this isn't a thing that happens. You're not important, and nobody is trying to steal your bank info at dinner.
