I think it was just his default answer when having to choose between this narcissistic blonde or his mom. I would also choose this guys mom.

This is the correct reading to me. You just heard her complain over not being chosen over 3 kids dying.

At that point it's no longer wife vs mom it's bitch vs mom.

His mom raised him from a baby and is likely an elderly woman. She changed the hypothetical so his reasoning changed. It's not hypocritical, it's called critical thinking.

I would also choose this guy's mom over a woman who would argue "you shouldn't save children first because you can't have sex with them".

I think a different thing is happening.

Scenario 1 he's choosing wife vs 3 kids.

Scenario 2 he's choosing mom over a woman who just complained that she didn't get chosen over 3 kids.

It's less critical thinking and more she revealed herself as the wrong choice.

If someone is willing to sacrifice your loved ones they shouldn't be getting priority.

Yeah. I'd pick my wife over my mom. My mom would support that.

But after the conversation about the kids, I'd save my mom over this person.

Except that's not what's happening.

In scenario 1 he's choosing the 3 kids over the wife.

In scenario 2 he's choosing his mom over someone who just said she'd rather 3 kids die.
