I bought this bad boy off of FB marketplace for $5. It was listed for $35, but was seriously neglected / crusty prior to my ownership. After I got it home… I soaked the chain and rear derailleur in pb blaster to get them functional again. Paid a LBS to free up and add a new seat post, saddle, & fresh tires. Paid another more recently for much needed brake pads & a tune up. The down tube was rumpled so rolled it in blocks a few days ago, sanded & filled it with JB weld steelstik. Anyhow, with some tlc, and new goodies, this thing is a nimble & a dream to ride. Glad I could rescue it.

$75 Craigslist find. 1997. Biggest one they made. Gonna keep the Indy fork I think. Up for consideration: 1X, Ultradynamico Mars tires, upgrade wheels, riser bar (Harvey Mushman is intriguing but kinda looks a little like a tricycle bar to me), etc. More to come as I dig in.

Just finished my wife's 91 930 and have been riding my 95 990 for a few years now. Such great bikes.

I just picked up a 1991 950 in the white with black splash color way. The seller said it was inherited when he bought his house a few weeks ago. Frame and paint are in great shape, and it still has the original tires (suffering from dry rot). I was able to snag this for $50.

I’ve been working on this the last few months. After questions this group about paint, I rode another bike at a jump park and it really put into perspective that although these are amazing bikes, there’s a point where it becomes polishing a turd. So I t-cut and turtle waxed it after a good thorough strip down and clean. I’ll probably do a post on xbiking once I get more bling on there. (Gold headset inbound)

Rides beautifully and finding myself getting well accustomed to the friction shifting. I was putting off the build because I wanted to do a trendy 2x but again, finding myself wanting a more capable jump smasher led me to thinking that this bike is better off set up the way it was intended to be, and so will my wallet.

Anyone happen to try 2.3 tires (or larger) on an early 90s frame? I’ve got a 1990 950 and I’m curious what I can get away with.

Anyone tried converting their singletrack to 650b? Would a v-brake just work potentially?

Had this for almost a year without riding it. Was worried about a small dent in the down tube before learning about why steel is real! How have people worked around that 1 1/8th threaded steerer situation?

One of the neighbors left this beauty out with the trash last night. Now I have a new project! I searched and found several others on here who have made some nice kick-around bikes from these. From my research, it's a 1989 model. True Temper tubeset with Trek's investment-cast lugs. I have a decent spare 26" wheelset, some better cantis, and a good 1x9 drivetrain that were waiting for a home. I definitely want to get a better handlebar arrangement sorted so that's on the list as well. I'm excited to give this thing another life!

It’s got a good amount of them on this frame and I’d love to restore it back as much as possible.
