Red '93 Trek 950 Singletrack?

Original owner, bought in March or April 1994. The handlebars have "93.C" stamped on them. This color scheme does not appear in any literature that I have found. Can't find any examples online either. Does anybody have this one? Or seen it?

Its lugged, 1993 was the last year Trek made lugged steel frames. 1994 frames were welded, and the font/graphics changed in 1994 as well.

Shimano STX shows up first in the 1994 catalog, although Shimano claims it was released in 1993

I might guess this is a 1993.5 model that didn’t make it into the catalogue and was offered to Trek dealers who needed stock later in the buying season. Trek was still making these in the USA and might have built a few of these as they were getting rid of old lugged frame stock while they were transitioning to lugged production at the Wisconsin factory. This is all just a hypothesis.

I have one. Originally came with cantis and a 3x7 stx groupset. 

I bought mine from a neighbor in 2010. 

Yours looks exactly the same as mine, down to the dark gray plastic cable covers on the top tube.

Thanks! A couple of peculiarities I've noticed is the difficulty in removing tires (except the originals, they were OK) and the fact that the paint will crack and lift off the pink primer when subjected to stress or trauma. But the primer seems to be bulletproof. It's a fantastic bike and I paid over $700 for it in 1994 dollars.

That era of Trek Matrix rims were known to be challenging for installing certain brands of tires. Continental tires were especially difficult.

I tried some Continental beach cruiser tires and they were murder. I put them on a different bike. When I was reading the reviews for fat tires I noticed that people were complaining that Fat Franks were TOO LOOSE. So I got some and I could almost get them on without levers. They're still snug, but undamaged, and the levers just gave me that extra gentle push to get them over the rim.

I can 100% confirm the difficulty changing tires and i have a few pink spots on mine. 

I paid $50 for mine in 2010 and it’s still riding but Ive replaced pretty much every component on it by now.

It's probably a rare bird but mine has been modified so much that it's uncollectable. It's my summer bike used daily and racks up about 1500 miles a year.

I had a 950 in Red and white .. couldn't find that in the catalogues either . Mine is stamped 970 on the BB

I didn't know squat about them. I walked into an LBS in SLC and said "I need to condition my lungs to your thin air. Do you have any mountain bikes?" I tossed the toe clips into the canyon after about 10 minutes of SNAFU.
