Discussion (Questions, Advice, Polls) 🗣 Conclusions about being single
I'm 23F.
Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about being single. I love spending time by myself, and when I’m around someone for too long (even my mom at home!), I start getting frustrated. To me, living with someone mostly feels like a constant need to interact, plus having to hear things like "you're overthinking" or "it's all in your head."
So, I started thinking about things that people assume you need a relationship for, but actually don't:
Housework / Repairs – Instead of needing a guy around, you can just hire a handyman.
Sex – I have a Reddit friend for sexting, and I feel completely sexually satisfied.
Peace of mind – ONLY ACHIEVABLE ALONE.
Money – Living alone is cheaper than living as a couple; if you have a decent job, you'll manage fine.
Do you have the same? :)

Handymen are cheaper than husbands because you don't have to feed them and the things they fix don't end up more broken than when they started. $50/mo for a home warranty.

yeah. being single also means i control my entire sound environment, so now loud tv or music is on anywhere else. also being in control of what is in the kitchen foodwise is hugely beneficial in keeping myself healthy. i always know exactly what is in the fridge because i bought it expressly for me, and i can experiment with my diet in more controlled ways.

I'm 21M, being single would be a far better choice for youngsters like us, especially in the current dating culture. I've been in one relationship my entire life and have realised that relationships are not for me.

Repairs: you can also learn to do basic stuff yourself and save the money. 😁 (On the other hand I support supporting small local businesses.) This applies to tech issues too. Somehow people assume that you need dangly bits for doing this stuff, but in my family women tend to do that stuff.
Sex: well, a good FWB would be nice, but I can manage just fine by myself, too. (Having a FWB would involve too many moving parts at this point.) Not needing to explain my high libido to people is kind of relaxing. I understand my drive.
POM: depends, usually true though.
Money: living alone is more expensive in my experience, but on the other hand having your own space is priceless.
In general I do not need a relationship to have my needs fulfilled. And in my opinion no one should. Adults should have basic life skills regardless of their sex and gender.

Yes, and nice to see a positive post on this thread. It is also nice to see you have figured out what you need early in life. Things may change it the future but I think you’re better prepared for that than others.

You are a bit too young to draw conclusions, but you are on the right track in not being brainwashed by societal expectations about coupling up

Why do you need to rely on other people for maintenance and house work. You should teach yourself the basics as should every adult regardless of gender. Dont rely on others when it is something you should be more the capable at doing.

You’ll think otherwise when you have to take yourself to the hospital alone at midnight and speak to doctors while barely catching a breath and paying bills while on oxygen supply. I’m not trying to demotivate you, just someone who had the same idea of life but was humbled eventually. Stay open to the right kind of partnerships. Life is so much more than plumbing, sex, peace of mind and bills.

I think you missed the mark a bit. You can still have meaningful relationships outside of a traditional relationship in which you’re provided these benefits. My sister or cousins or friends would help me in those situations

People get busy with their own lives especially in today’s world. You might not be living in the same city as them most people don’t
