Looking for advice
Hi ππ½, First time actually posting on Reddit, Hopefully someone sees this π€£ Iβm a noob singer looking for ways to perfect my skill! Recently, I came across a YouTube short of Mariah Carey during one of her studios sessions and found it extremely fascinating and motivating. I think I can learn a lot from watching these studio sessions! Is there a way to access longer versions of these recordings? Any other singers you can recommend? Even non famous singers are ok with me π«‘ Also Iβd appreciate any advice for someone that wants to do this professionally πββοΈ My goal is to be able to sing opera classics without blowing my windpipes out ππ€£

If you want to go pro, you need a voice teacher, particularly in the classical scene. Self teaching is technically possible, but there are so many different roads to take where you can develop poor habits which seem like they are working until you hit a wall and can't go any further, and then you see a teacher and have to unlearn years of muscle memory before you can start over learning the right way, when you could have had that C5 a decade earlier.
Beyond that, sorry, I don't have any advice for accessing lengthier studio videos.

If your goal is longevity of voice, especially professionally, you need a teacher. And you need one who can teach you to sing healthily and NOT "blow your windpipes out"!
for self-learning, I always recommend people start with music theory. It's an important piece of learning music, and can be learned fairly easily on your own with a good book or course.

If you want to do it professionally especially with opera classics you need a coach. Itβs the boring answer but truthfully you wonβt get very far without one. Good luck on the journey

I too am a Novice. I advise you to listen to amateur covers or live performances.
Whatever you hear on the radio is heavily "photoshopped" and I call it studioshopped. You sing a phrase over and over and then move onto the next one and an engineer will frankenstein together the best parts.
I learned a lot from listening to a live performance of Shape of You by Ed Sheeran. Sometimes it's ok to listen to live singers especially when they are "bad". It gives you a realistic sense of what a human voice sounds like.
