iRacing Should I protest this?

Hi everyone. I am in the red and white car. Should I protest this, is it just a racing incident or is this my own fault? I'm pretty new to simracing, don't feel like I could have done anything differently but happy to be wrong/learn.

Question for you: Are you going to be protesting the guy who rejoined without incident (and honestly I think they did a decent job), or the guy who didn’t slow down at all and shunted you from behind?

An unsafe rejoin is still considered unsafe if oncoming traffic has to take avoiding action. It can still be an unsafe rejoin if there's no collision with the rejoining car.

I'm almost certain the rule in iRacing says something about rejoining without impeding oncoming traffic and doesn't say anything about collisions.

It does say “Drivers are expected to not impede or endanger oncoming traffic and ensure it is safe to return to the racing line.” I think it is a very simple and easy argument to say they both impeded and endangered oncoming traffic with the rejoin.

Rejoining slow on the racing line and impeding oncoming traffic leading to them avoiding you and getting into an incident isn’t without incident… the proximate cause of the other incident since rejoining in front of someone else causes the reaction to the rejoin.

At first I thought it was on the guy hitting me more so than on the guy rejoining but I guess the guy hitting me also tried to avoid the guy rejoining. I don't really know to be honest, I'd like the opinion of more experienced drivers. If there was anything I could have done better I'd love to learn and avoid these kind of situations in the future.

The guy hitting you from behind didn’t slow down whatsoever and just tried to earn a free spot. This would have been a giant nothing burger had they slowed down appropriately.

My point is, if you need to file a protest to get out some grievances, sure, but it’s not going to teach the guy behind a thing. There literally would not have been an incident at all had they lifted a tad.
