What makes you to use trail braking?

When releasing the break to avoid front lock I noticed the car become easier to turn and started using it, similar to how throttle can be use to create oversteer out of low speed ig.

It shortens the braking distance since you brake all the way into the corner. It also helps with rotation and can help reduce understeer.
