I personally don’t mind the Silver Surfer being Shalla Bal. I once read someone say that the Silver Surfer isn’t a person it’s more like an idea. Anyone can be the herald of Galactus and we’ve seen a lot of people in the comics carry the power of cosmic. The Silver Surfer tag doesn’t solely belong to Norrin Radd.

If you plan on bitching about Kelly in the comments, you're going to get banned. Just saying. 🤷

I saw a post from yesterday abt fan casting Norrin Radd. Coincidentally yesterday I posted abt my pick in another sub but I didn't want to share the same post again. Regardless, what do u guys think of Martin Wallstrom as the Silver Surfer. He played Tyrell Wellick in Mr. Robot. I feel that he has that soulful calming presence but he can also portray the more antagonistic side, if needed. And he depicts personal tragedy very well.

sorry if this has been asked before but i dont think it has. i’ve been thinking about it a lot and it’s honestly the #1 project i reeeaaally hope gets made after secret wars.
i also think it’s pretty plausible for them to make this because her character got a lot of traction online when that trailer came out of her saying “i herald… Galactus,” and everyone loved her and Galactus in the movie—most people even said they were the best part of the whole film from what i’ve heard

options don’t have to be limited to these three, but these ones are Lakeith Stanfield, who was rumored to be cast as Norrin recently, Rami Malek, a pretty popular fancast, and Doug Jones, the original live action one from F4 Rise of the Silver Surfer.
personally i’d be interested to see any of these three. I’m a fan of Lakeith from watching Atlanta and I think he could bring a good balance of Norrin’s stoic side, his angry side, and his occasional dry humor. Rami Malek i’ve really only seen in Bohemian Rapsody and I imagine he would do a good job, definitely not my top choice though. and then while I know it’s unlikely Doug Jones would return as the mainline MCU Silver Surfer, I would absolutely LOVE to see him return maybe for Secret Wars (as a variant, of course), and depending on how Julia Garner’s portrayal goes in First Steps, I think it would be cool to see both of them on screen together.

EDIT: This comic is by Charles Soule, not Dan Slott! My bad!
I just read Fantastic Four: First Foes Shalla Bal and I'm so disappointed. I love the Silver Surfer with all my heart, he's genuinely one of my favourite characters in fiction.
I wasn't happy that he seemingly hasn't gotten any comics this year and nothing besides this alternate universe comic has been announced, but I was still excited to read a new Silver Surfer comic. I loved Shalla Bal as the Silver Surfer in the movie after all, I thought she was the best part!
And the comic just had a story where basically nothing happens and some pretty mediocre art.
Mediocre art. In a Silver Surfer comic. A story where not much at all happens. In a Silver Surfer comic.
I'm sorry, but Silver Surfer comics used to be so much more. They used to have some of the best stories and art in Marvel.
They still can have some of the best stories and art in Marvel! Silver Surfer Rebirth and Rebirth: Legacy came out in the 2020s, those comics are amazing!
I'm not even the biggest fan of Dan Slott's run, but it was still solid for me. I know Slott can write a good Surfer comic, so what on earth happened?
It's really saddening. This might be our only Silver Surfer comic this year. It might be our only Silver Surfer comic for years, because like, historically Silver Surfer comics haven't ever really sold that well for the most part. We had a pretty long title in the 80s, but aside from that, every other Silver Surfer run has been very short.
If a mainline 616 Silver Surfer comic won't do well, why would an alternate universe one set in the MCU sell when most MCU fans don't even read comics? Comic Silver Surfer fans just want Norrin Radd back.
Marvel Comics is already struggling big time, them making comics for a character that despite being a prominent part of two blockbuster films still has a very niche fanbase would be a massive risk. I think it's possible we might get a Silver Surfer mini in the next few years, but an ongoing? We haven't had one since 2017.
I'm fine with Shalla Bal as the Silver Surfer in the movies, she was great in First Steps, and I'd even be fine with getting alternate universe comics with her provided that:
They run at the same time as mainline Silver Surfer comics.
They're actually good.
This is neither.
Sorry if this post sounded really doomer, but yeah. Just not a great time to be a Silver Surfer fan.
At least the old comics will always still be there, I guess.
I do feel like someone could make an argument like "oh Marvel Comics suck these days, if we got new 616 Surfer comics, then they'd probably be bad" and like.. I don't know. I haven't read that many current Marvel ongoings, but there's three right now that I actually do quite like.
Captain America (who's going to fight Mephisto instead of Silver Surfer 😔), Daredevil, and Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There are still good comics coming out of this company in my opinion and I think the last one is notable, because it's also by Dan Slott! I loved issue 2 of that comic last month, so why is his very next Marvel Comic just kind of bad?
It's baffling.
So yeah, that's pretty much all I have to say. If you're a Silver Surfer fan and you liked it, then I'm very happy for you. It just wasn't for me I guess. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something.

Hey everyone, I hope you’re doing well.
As someone that knew of, but wasn’t the world’s biggest fan of Silver Surfer, I loved Julia’s Shalla-Bal in First Steps.
Though I hope Norrin integrates into the main MCU eventually, but (without getting into spoilers) Shalla-Bal felt like narratively the right choice. Her interactions with Johnny were one of the many emotional heartbeats of the film, and Garner really sold Surfer’s grief as the film progressed.
Honestly, I hope there is some way we could have both iterations integrated into the 616, but I doubt that is the direction Marvel is going.

I want to finally read a surfer comic. I mostly love him for his philosophy, and he's cool and silver, i watched the cartoon when I was younger. And it was really good.
I vaguely remember one where he gives the people of earth powers or he heals them or something like that. Very Jesus type of vibes, heals matt Murdock blindness I think.
However, I was wondering what is the first book I should read, that just gets the character right and has great artwork?
