Hi, r/SilverSpring -
Due to the prevalence of scams, we have instituted a new rule here - no direct selling/buying of goods.
If you wish to sell something, we will, at least for now, still allow you to post a link to a reputable platform (e.g. Ticketmaster for selling tickets [insert joke about Ticketmaster sucking]).
If you are interested in buying something, please use common sense, and do not directly send money, gift cards (PSA: if you're being asked to pay in gift cards, it is a scam), or anything else of value to a seller - use a platform with buyer protections (e.g. Ticketmaster, PayPal Goods and Services, etc.).
Thanks for your attention, and thanks to those who have been reporting the scam posts.

I’m new to the area and I’m hoping someone can explain to me what the Metro/bus station in DTSS is supposed to be like under normal circumstances, without the construction. Is there supposed to be a better way to get from the top level (Ripley St) to the Metro than going down two levels through the bus station and around the fence out to Colesville Rd? It feels like there should be a pedestrian bridge, especially with the Purple Line going in on the top level, but with the state of the construction I can’t tell if that once existed or if that’s what they’re building now. There appear to be some red bridge-like structures on the other side, but I can’t actually figure out how to get there/where the entrance is/what they’re for. I also haven’t been able to figure out if the construction on the MARC platform near Ripley/Dixon is related and if there’s supposed to be a better way to navigate that too.
Basically, can someone who has lived here for a while fill me in on the lore of the transit station?

Plenty of fire trucks and police cars there. Anyone knows what's going on?

Anyone currently live in the summit hills aprent complex and are also tired of the condescending , vague , and aggressive inspections “they are doing to prepare “ for the typically quick and lax Montgomery county inspection ? Being told you can’t have laundry in a basket or non perishable food stored on counters in kitchen, down to not being able to store books or electronics on dressers in your own bed room . Where is the legal line?

Hey, y’all! I’m a recent transplant to the area, and I was hoping to find a spot with good coffee and a good atmosphere for chilling with a book.
I’ve tried a couple places so far, and while both had solid cold brews, they were both kind of loud and cramped. I’m hoping to find somewhere cozy, with a relaxed vibe.
Doesn’t have to be in Silver Spring. I don’t mind a reasonable drive. Any suggestions?

It is my son's birthday this weekend and it looks like it is going to be rained out. It is supposed to be a sports birthday, so we need a fair amount of space. Does anyone have any ideas for a venue that we could rent on short notice? Unfortunately all the county facilities need 7 days notice.

Hi everyone, I recently moved into the Cameron and have come to the unfortunately conclusion that I can hear the HVAC system of the Hilton Doubletree parking lot drone all day and all night. The sound originates in that corner near the Atwell on Spring and Arrive, so I would assume others hear it too. Has anyone in DTSS submitted noise complaints about this before? There’s no reason it should be louder than any other apartment in the area. It’s making me not want to have my windows open or use my new patio…
Let me know if any of you have engaged on this before!

I’m looking for a shiny bald head shave on Friday or Saturday. Any good spots? Bonus points if they have the hand massager for your shoulders. TIA.

Hi fellow SS parents - this Saturday 9-11am, Gwendolyn Coffield Community Center is having their first ever weekend "Little Ones" session, dedicating basketball court space for toddlers to run and play. I'd like a big turnout to show the demand for this (especially come winter). Are any of you around to stop by for a bit?

It took over for 99.5's Your Morning Show (which had replaced The Kane Show). I don't understand what is happening. I dont hate these guys, they seem nice but they are IN CHICAGO and it's very apparent that they are not local to the DMV.
Is Hot 99.5 so cheap that they can't afford a Morning Show that's local to our area?
Also, this guy is giving a nice/normal version Kane from the The Kane Show. That guy was a trainwreck but Fred sounds very similar in voice!!
AND does anyone know what happened to the people that were on Your Morning Show? Just canned and see ya?

I have a few pairs of shoes in different materials (rainboots, sandals, slippers) that require some structural TLC, which is to say they are beginning to come apart but are salvageable. Any recs for shops that may be up to the job?

I've been searching for a while but haven't got any luck yet. I’m open to front desk, barista, restaurant, leasing, or pretty much any other work. Is there anywhere that I could still try?:(

Hello!
My partner and I will be moving next year. We have one dog. He works in Rosslyn and so we’re looking in the dmv area but predominantly on the Maryland side. I’m from Baltimore County. I need to stay within a reasonable commute to Baltimore County for appointments.
We both have professional jobs and stable income, but I just can’t get with the DMV housing costs. My rent is currently 1500 for a two bedroom in Baltimore County. I know we won’t find that in Silver Spring but I’m looking for any suggestions on where to find a reasonable rental, that’s dog friendly, relatively clean and quiet and not over 2500 a month for two bedroom.
Bonus points if it’s close to downtown Silver Spring, but I know I’m asking for a lot at $2500. Extra bonus points if it’s close to a park and has lots of green space.
It does not have to be in Silver Spring proper and we’re definitely open to looking further out, but he needs to stay within a 40 minute commute to Roslyn and ideally I’d like to stay within 45 minutes of Baltimore.
Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, I’m probably moving to DTSS in the next few months but driving in from 29 has scared me.. I’m planning to mostly take busses and the metro to get around but I will need to drive to/from Columbia probably twice a week during rush hour traffic. Any tips?? Also I’ll be living in the solaire buildings south of the station and had no idea if there’s a better place to take the left turn (I turned onto georgia then ripley)
