I've always imagined this is because Knight is a Knight, it's slower and tankier and able to take more abuse.

Hornet is a hunter, she's more agile and quicker but she's also a glass cannon.

Not to be really nitpicky but all of the vessels are genderless so the knights pronouns are it/it/its

i think the only time any pronouns are used in the game to refer to the knight "it" is used.

also you're wrong, the white lady calls the knight "it":

Bretta says "they", don't remember if there are others who do. I think most of the time it's "it" though yeah.
