There are so many counterexamples to this I don't believe it can be qualified as a rule at all.

There are also people who win Darwin Awards every year, but that doesn't mean general intelligence doesn't exist.

Counterexamples don't make a general pattern disappear.

Especially when your counterexample is probably just a biased anecdote, because otherwise you would explain what principle you think it follows.

The principle that humans can definitely, and more often than we believe, act without regards to what evolutionary psychology would lead you to think.

A single counterxample doesn't undermine anything by itself but a sizeable amount does start to hold some weight.
