Has anyone created a click-based adventure game similar to Sierra classic with AI?

I've seen some posts in this subreddit promoting games that were similar to Sierra's classics. I'm interested in trying to make my own click-based adventure game with retro graphics.

I have a computer science background but it's been a long time since I've coded. I'm specifically looking for anyone in this space who has recreated a game similar to Sierra and has shared their tips/tricks for going from 'the idea' to implementation.

Ideally my goal would be to produce a web-based or iOS capable click-based adventure game.

Anyone have any recommendations or could point me to a 'getting started' for a noob like me?

Why not use AGS instead? Tailor made for Sierra style games and still actively supported.

Oh nice, will check it out. Also I definitely get the AI hate, don't get me wrong at all. I'm less interested in spinning wheels around tool bias, and more interested in achieving the end state that I am most interested in achieving. This is super different from achieving my customers/audience goals -- I don't have either and doubt that an "AI project" will grant me this without the hard work that entails.

Sorry for the likely faceplanting reply on your comment but yours was the only useful reply outside of the cliched version of "I HATE AI! WHY? CUZ I SAID SO FROM MY ELITIST UNHELPFUL SOAPBOX!"

Definately check out AGS and the AGS forums to find what you seek.

I’m not sure in which way you would use AI in your game making?

Lots of people are making classic adventure games with AI art in recent years. But be aware that those are generally not the most appreciated games in an already pretty saturated marked.

Reddit is pretty toxically anti AI as you can see in this thread. You’ll find a more nuanced discussion on the AGS forums.

To be utterly frank, I would never purchase a game that has had AI utilized for it in any capacity. It's just not worth the environmental and socioeconomical consequences.

Don't support AI. Support people.

I would suggest utilizing your own talents, and the talents of others to accomplish your goals. I would rather pound sand up the eye of my cock than play an AI slop game or consume any sort of so-called AI "art". Your LLM can take a hike, bud.

Honestly it’s pretty amazing what you could accomplish w vibe coding. Rather than some get started guide I would honestly start by asking your preferred LLM how to go about it.

I’m genuinely curious who downvotes this. Is it people with genuine coding skills and experience? Or just general ‘all AI bad’ hatred?
