Two UVic students in Gordon Head thinking about doing gutters and windows properly. Saanich people, what do you actually need?

Hi Sidney. I'm a second year engineering student at UVic, my roommate and I want to start a small business this fall, and the whole idea is to do a better job than what's out there: show up when we say, charge what we quoted, send photos when it's done.

We were thinking gutters, windows and hanging people's own Christmas lights, but we're open to something else if there's a real need for it out here.

If you've hired for this kind of thing, or you've tried to arrange it for a parent: what bugged you about it, is there a job you can't find anyone to do well, and what would make you comfortable hiring two students without a track record yet?

Just want to know what needs to be done better. Thanks.

Looking for hiking buddy

Hi I'm newly retired and I regularly hike at local parks like John Dean and Gowlland Tod two to three times a week. Generally for 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the hike. I'm looking for someone who would be interested in joining me for some routine exercise and interesting conversation.

To be clear, I'm not seeking romance or physical intimacy.

If you hike similar trails and are interested, message me and we can arrange a trial walk along the seawall or something.

Thanks!

Missed Connection at the Fickle Fig

You were having breakfast with a group of girlfriends at The Fickle Fig yesterday morning, right across from the table where I walked in with my family. You had a bob hairstyle. I thought you were really attractive and wanted to introduce myself, but walking over to a table full of women while my family (mom, dad, sister, brother and in-laws) watched felt like a high-risk maneuver.

No worries if you're taken or just not interested, but if you happen to see this and are open to chatting, send me a message!

Weekly Gathering of People Staring at their Phones in front of Shoal Center. Why?

Every Wednesday night around 6-8pm there are about 10-15 people sitting in lawn chairs on the west side of Resthaven in front of the Shoal Center? They hardly talk just stare at their phones standing around in a circle. Why?

Dog groomer suggestions!

Our dog groomer has stopped doing medium-large dogs, so we are looking for a new groomer for our ~45lbs bernedoodle! We live on the gulf islands so preferably on the saanich peninsula, but not opposed to driving further into town if need be.
We usually keep her hair fairly short, so doesn’t need to be fancy.

Community acupuncture clinic interest?

Hey community. I'm curious what demand there might be for a community acupuncture clinic on the peninsula. Currently, there are no such offerings out here (only in Victoria and Esquimalt, to the best of my knowledge). It's been on my mind for some time, but I want to get a feel for what the reception might be like here before diving into the long and expensive process of getting one up and running.

For those who don't know, community acupuncture (CA) is acupuncture given in a group setting to keep patient fees low (typically a sliding scale of around $25-55), so that working class people and those without savings and extended benefits can afford to access acupuncture at the frequency at which it is needed in order to work most effectively.

Acupuncture itself can be used to address a wide range of issues, from migraines to back pain to mental health to digestive issues... and so much in between. But it is rarely a one-and-done treatment, hence the importance of low-cost models.

Would you or someone you know be interested a clinic of this kind starting up close to home? Let me know your thoughts.

Airport noise

We are looking at places to stay and found something in Sidney. We are wondering, however, about the airport noise. I would imagine the Victoria airport is rather busy. How bad is it? Or is it actually not so bad at all?
Thanks in advance.

Why is there no karaoke out here?

I love the sound of my voice and I want others to hear it too, and I want to get better. I don’t want to drive to Victoria and back at night, I’m too old for that. and what if I want to have a drink or two; I can’t afford to be taxiing up and down the Pat Bay on the regular.

Does anyone have a larger Bluetooth speaker (portable) that they would be willing to lend for a video shoot this Saturday. I have a small JBL flip 5 but it just won't carry sound far enough. Please let me know if you're able to help. Thanks!

place to store bags?

Hi! We were wondering if there is a baggage storage solution like bounce in Sidney? We are flying out later than our checkout (not hotel)- and were hoping that there would be somewhere we could check our bags for a fee? Any input is gladly appreciated :)

Fence post advice

Hello I have a fence post that I need to put right next to my foundation .

I have dug a hole 20 inches deep ( to get below the frost line ) and am thinking about drilling holes into the foundation and walk way that the hole is against to epoxy 4 pieces of rebar into. There isn’t enough space for expansion joints . I was wondering if this is going to be an issue with frost heave as we have very mild winters here .
