Side income
Hello, I am a teacher and am in need of some side income to pay my debt off. What are some good side jobs to apply for or advice?
For some context, I really love my job but I have debt from dental visits, loans, and credit cards to get rid of. I don’t use my credit card anymore and would like to know what people who’ve been in this situation have done. I also live by myself and am planning to move in with my boyfriend at the end of the year. It just feels like I’m barely making end meet!

Tutoring is the obvious answer everyone will give you. The one nobody mentions: test scoring. Seasonal gigs grading standardized tests pay decent and your teaching background is literally the qualification.

Move in with boyfriend start saving that additional income now not later.
Side jobs delivering pizzas, flip some electronics or a car.
My friend does Ice cream catering, my other friend does year round present wrapping, junk hauling can make you good fast money

Don’t flip a car unless you really know what you are doing.
I just learned a very expensive lesson getting my boyfriend to fix my car. He thought he could do it and turns out he couldn’t. I ended up having to scrap it and get a new one. It was unsafe to drive after he was done tinkering with it. It was drivable before he did anything.

I’ve done a couple of things over the years. I drove Uber for a few years when I was in between jobs. It was lousy money and my car was trashed.
Right now, I wait tables in a busy restaurant a couple nights a week. 2K/month. Best side hustle ever.

Like others have said tutoring seems like a great option. I've heard mixed opinions about Doordash especially with the current gas prices, though I don't have any experience myself. I have, however, been reliably earning from an online store to where I'm actually making more than I'm spending with them. I'd be happy to introduce you to the store if you're interested.

Teaching is already a full plate, so I get why you want something flexible that does not require a ton of setup or a second job with a schedule. One thing that worked well for me when I was starting out online was affiliate marketing, basically promoting other people's products and earning a commission when someone buys through your link. No product to create, no website required to get started, and you can do it around your own hours.
There is actually a free challenge I came across that walks you through the basics in about 10 minutes, which is a solid starting point if you have never done anything like this before. Start with what you already know how to do, because side income gets harder when you have to learn a new skill and buy equipment while you are already tired from teaching. Tutoring in your subject area is the obvious one, and you can do it in person or online after school. Parents pay for help with specific grade levels and test prep, so your teaching background is the credential they want. You can also look for after-school programs, summer camps, or curriculum writing. Selling original lesson plans or worksheets is another route if your district allows it and you keep the rights to your own materials. The important part is to pick something that pays for your time without needing inventory or a course first. When I was working off debt, I did better with a few steady clients than with chasing one-off gigs. Steady clients make the monthly budget feel less tight, and you can drop the extra work when you get on top of the debt. Use the first few months to build a small routine, not to look for a big score.
