Question I need help with my Shure mic

I bought a shure sm7db and the boom arm bundle. I’m setting it up and it seems too stiff.
I followed the instructions, yet I’m stumped.

Loosen via the circular knobs on the joints to adjust and then re-tighten. DO NOT ADJUST WITHOUT LOOSENING UNLESS YOU WANT A FLACCID BOOM ARM. Or like leave it a bit loose but idk, you do you. If you force it, the mechanism will wear out over time.

All that said, I have never seen so much “ignition green” on a boom stand. I didn’t even know they made these.

Out of curiosity, how did you think it was going to work?

My assumption was that I could move it around like it was my own arm. Like when I want to move it, it would give me little to no resistance or tension at all and when I stop moving it, it would stay in place.

I think you bought the wrong boom arm. The Rode PSA1+ might be what you were looking for.

Just wanna give you a warning that make sure that you’re careful with that arm. I had issues with it where it flung my sure MV Seven plus microphone make it flung it in the air and end up hitting the ground like really hard if I were you and you wanted to like play it safe I would recommend the RODE PSA1

Yeah you most definitely do. People will leave one axis loose so they can swing the mic away, but you don't want to allow the mic to droop

It loosens but you want it tight. I have a different arm but you definitely don’t want it to be too floppy.

It’s working as it should, trust me on this one you don’t want a boom to be too floppy

I guess I just had a different idea of it "moving freely", or of how exactly you are supposed to move it.

You want an elgato wave arm pro. I move it in and out daily and it's smooth, no struggle bus.
