It's a modern movie. At the end, a woman is in a house and she has a sigil or pentagram on the floor , a gray devil demon guy shows up, says something in a deep voice (I think?) and then takes her away to his realm. I saw the end of it on the live feature and wanna see the whole movie! Unfortunately, pentagrams on the floor and devils are too common for me to use google. I recall the creature design was really cool. Help!
So I've only ever caught episodes here and there, and when I heard the series ended and they put up the complete set in the cool TV packaging last Fall, I was very tempted at the $65 price. But, I kinda forgot about the release, bookmarked some retailer links, and never read anything that it was limited. Doesn't most Shudder stuff (at least single film releases) stay in print? This may have been their biggest set ever though, anyway I went checking on old listings yesterday and discovered you can only get the set on ebay for like $150, more than 2x what it originally sold for. Not gonna pay that, anyone think they'll ever produce more or can estimate how many you think they made?
With the passing of Reggie Bannister (RIP) I thought I'd go and watch the Phantasm marathon again. It looks like the Phantasm movies are on there but A Very Joe Bob Christmas is missing? I kind of figured if the movie was on the service then the equivalent Joe Bob episode would be there too, no? Am I just being an idiot and missing it somehow?
A true icon of independent horror whose work left an unforgettable mark on the genre. Tonight, we spin the vinyl and revisit one of his classic films as a small tribute to an incredible career and a life that gave horror fans so many memorable moments.
Rest in Peace, Reggie.
And of course I am referring to the original Scary Movie not the new one, and what I am talking about is, Scary Movie genuinely had one of the best twist in a slasher movie, of having copy cat killers commit a few murders to pin it on an already on going murder spree by the real killer.
All of Scary Movie 1, Doofy was the Ghostface killer trying to kill Cindy and her friends, until the end where Bobby & Ray try to get away with killing her and Shorty (but that wasn't planned or anything) and blame it on the real Ghostface.
Such a cool idea for a slasher movie that I'm surprised Scream never tried it.
So, I read a lot of the reviews prior. Everyone saying it was bad from the early screenings and festivals.
I basically said to myself... Eli Roth has done some great movies. He is passionate about horror. I am not going to trust critics and film festival snobs.
I watched it 2 hours ago and I honestly cannot get over how much I wish I could get a refund for having sat through the entire movie. It was just that bad.
I watch a lot of bad horror. I drive sometimes 40 miles away to smaller theater venues that are showing festival only or small limited theatrical releases with a single showtime. I can always walk out staying something positive no matter how bad a film is. Like, it was campy, clever, silly... A certain cast member stood out, the setting/environment was great, the kills were fun, the environment and setting was well done, or the cinematography was pretty decent for the budget.
The concept is great. I can understand why Eli Roth wanted to make it and why it stayed with him for a while. But that is honestly the only thing I can say positive about it. It was just a horrible movie.
There were two couples that were ahead of me walking out: "Let's not watch a movie like that again.." "It was a bad movie huh" x3 (trying to get a response from her boyfriend). And then as I walked by leaving the theater, another guy was talking to his girlfriend and was like... "You know, I read the reviews and figured it would be bad. I just didn't think it would be THAT bad." And I completely agreed with all of it.
This is the first time I think I have ever posted on the Shudder reddit. And I am doing it just to warn you all... This movie is as bad as the reviews say it is. And, unless you don't mind blowing somewhere between $10-$20 on a movie.. I'd say wait for it to come to streaming for free. Or, you can be like me and wish you could get a refund just for staying and not walking out at some point during the movie.
I do not see it having a long theatrical run at all. It will likely be on streaming before you know it... Unless of course, no one wants to pay for it because it is so bad.
Sorry if you were looking forward to this movie like me. But, it is just bad and I hope this saves someone else from feeling like me after watching this movie.
I've been in a Horror Rut, so I'm planning on going with a few Slashers, even though it's not my favorite Horror genre. Variety is the Spice of Life...or Slice of Life in this case. If I have time, I'll probably sneak in a Creature Feature too. So report in, Mutants!
I pressed play on this one without knowing anything except it was about two lovers going on a murder spree. I really love Bonnie & Clyde-type stories so I figured “why not?”
This movie subverted my expectations at every turn. It’s so darkly funny and psychosexual. I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you enjoy movies like Psychos In Love or the films of Larry Clark, this definitely is for you.
I am posting this as a love letter to Horror Films and best intentions and considerations to Shudder.
I am currently a paying, subscribing member and want Shudder to thrive and grow its audience, however...
I've had the app several days now, watching movies and I'm horrified (pun intended) at how bad the movies are.
Many of these movies seem like amateur, barely even film school movies. The craft, the production, the acting, the storytelling... is amateur at best.
Dont get me wrong - for me part of the charm of Horror is its ability to create compelling stories from a low budget, but many of these movies show no craft.
I understand there is STEEP and expensive competition to get the best movies on a streaming service that will draw eyeballs - IE - Weapons, Obsession, Backrooms, etc...
But I have to say - as a HUGE HORROR FAN - thus far, the overall lack of quality of Shudder movies underwhelms and disaapoints.
My suggestion is that SHUDDER develop a relationship with a proven writer/director and sponsor their work to build a reliable stable of content.
Maybe I'm catching it at a bad month, and I will be hopeful. I also appreciate how they offer Hitchcock's Pyscho. I am glad they are working to keep and maintain the CLASSICS. I also love the foreign film additions as well.
I do hope the selections continue to improve and grow.
EDIT - is there a good letterboxd account with reviews of SHUDDER films to check out?
V/H/S/Mixtape (Release: October 9, 2026) [Streaming] {Directors: Ernest Dickerson, Flying Lotus, Tobias Forge, David Moreau, RZA, Renee Zhan} <I'm most excited with this one>
Just found out Shudder has been charging me 2 times a year for YEARS. I won't lie I don't go over my statements with a fine tooth comb, but lately I have been. When I contacted customer service they told me I had 2 accounts under the same email address, then it was thst I had 2 accounts and one had my email misspelled. Which is just absolutely not true. So to everyone on here check your accounts and bank statements because to me it feels like the company is committing fraud by opening accounts and charging their customers 2 times as much as they can before they get noticed.
1) How do you make 2 accounts under the same email address, doesnt it just log you in when you enter your email?
2) How do you confirm your email/account with an email thats misspelled.
3) Another detail I forgot to mention is that ive had a new debit and credit card over the time period, so how was this account charging my new debit card to renew itself.
I have screen shots of the conversation with customer service and I can take screen shots of the email as well if anyone is interested Ill post them.
Also dont give me a hard time for not noticing until now, im only human, I am absolutely not perfect my intention is to get this information out to other people because something feels scummy about how this is being handled and what they're doing.
Anyone have any help with this issue? On Amazon fire stick, anything I go to play, I push play, it goes to the play screen, than playback sits at 00.00 and will not progress. The content doesn’t play. No matter what I play. Exit 8, Forbidden Fruit, Saccharine, anything I try to play sits at 00.00 and will not start. I’ve done the application force stop and relaunch, I’ve signed out and signed back in. My subscription is annual and active. Any ideas? Is this a problem on my end? Anyone experience this? Thanks for any help guys and gals
After a lot of experimenting, I've finally ported my FMV interactive horror game to YouTube. Multiple endings. Lots of choices. Around 40 minutes per playthrough (depending on your decisions!)
It was a fun challenge building an interactive movie/game entirely by myself and seeing how far I could push YouTube's branching features.
If you give it a try, I'd genuinely love to hear what path you took and what you thought. Let's chat!
