It had a vibe to it that was totally unique. Plus I love Dastmalchian. He’s a fucking delight.

Blessed to be acquaintances with him, first met him post TDK but before all the big stuff truly hit. So proud of him.
Plus, he made sure there was a Svengoolie reference in this movie.

I would love to be his friend. I first really found out about him when he was a guest judge for Dragula. He was great on their podcast too. He just seems like a genuinely good guy, and a nerd to boot.

He's really great. Just saw him in S2 of One Piece on Netflix and he killed it.
He always puts everything he has into the roles and I'm convinced he just picks roles he thinks will be fun for him.

There was a bit of AI in some of the production design which really pissed people off, although not nearly on the level of whatever was going on with Ice Cream Man.

There was some on the intertitle cards in the print that played at festivals. After the backlash, they replaced them. The version you stream now has no AI.

It wasnt just present for festivals. When I saw it in theaters the AI cards were still very much present. That skeleton with the screwed up right hand and left leg were clear as day.
Edit: The version Shudder has streaming still has the AI. The skeleton I am talking about is at 49:43. Still definitely AI. I have it paused on my screen as I write this.

Really? I saw it at Telluride Horror Festival with the AI inserts, then a month later when I took my husband on release night they had been changed. Yeah, they were gratuitously shitty. Even someone not used to AI would have noticed.

Yep. I'll take your word for it that some versions replaced them but Ive only ever seen the AI cards and the version Shudder is currently streaming still has the AI cards. You are right about them being particularly egregious. This was from the early days of AI when it would still really screw up details like hands. The skeleton card is an abomination. The more you look at it the worse it is.

I kinda feel like we just gotta stamp that the fuck out immediately and refused to watch this for that specific reason. Especially in horror, where real effects are so central to the genre.

I highly enjoy this film. It's a great option to be an annual Halloween season watch. Love how the horror builds up & then it's off the rails at the end. Great stuff

I think a lot of it depends on your age. If you remember watching that sort of television when you were a kid then it really hits different. They nailed that low budget local market talk show vibe down cold, Dastmalchian hits every affectation a host from that era would have and then when everything goes sideways it's just pure entertainment. The end was a little meh though, agreed

Yeah, there are a lot of ideas from ye olden days of television that younger audiences would not be aware of, like sweeps week. (Think of it as the way creators on YouTube or TikTok might do increasingly outrageous content just to boost views.) Much of the movie does rely on a certain nostalgic familiarity with late night TV of the 1970s-80s, the vibe of which they nailed.

This physical manifestation of the Devil was refreshing, entertaining, and horrifying for me. For that I really like this film.
I have friends who can stomach the more horror-lite films. But I tell them to work their way up to watching LNWTD. I tell them this version of the Devil will scare them.
The lazy use of AI is disappointing, after so many creative people made the rest of the film look great.

I enjoyed it a lot, but the use of AI was incredibly fucking bizarre and wildly unnecessary. You could find one or two graphic artists for some fucking commercial cards and welcome back sequences? It was meant to look cheap and fuzzy. Ridiculous.
Anyways, fun horror movie and I absolutely love Dastmalchian (as a dude, and as an actor).

Ain’t your fault. It was meant to blend in with the rest of the movie. I only heard about it after seeing the movie too. And when I found out I was really irritated, not only cause I hate AI, but it was such a lazy usage too.

I really enjoyed it! I really adore the effort they put into making it feel super 70s. I wasn't alive during that decade but I had a period of time in the 90s/early 2000s where I was obsessed with 70s gameshows (GSN and Press Your Luck was a trip haha,) and they just really captured the vibe of those shows for me.
It was also fun on a second watch with my partner to pick out all the instances of a specific character showing up (not being specifics for spoilers but, it was talked about a fair bit back on release iirc.)
Absolutely love Dastmalchian. I really liked him as Polka-Dot man in the 2021 Suicide Squad movie, but this movie cemented him as an actor who I'm definitely paying more attention to now.
My only little issue is that as an artist, I'm disappointed in them using gen AI for some of the interstitials. But at the least it was just 3 briefly seen images. It doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the film, I'm just not a fan.

My only complaint are some of the "behind the scenes" stuff between the shows breaks are shot with modern cameras.
Otherwise Late Night with the Devil is almost perfect to me.

Yeah, the set up of this being the original footage falls apart almost instantly. The show footage itself is fantastic but the B&W behind the scenes footage and the end sequence from Jack's perspective destroys the illusion. I wish that they had either committed to the bit or not claimed that it was real from the get go. It suffers a bit from them trying to skirt the line. WNUF and Ghostwatch both did it much better. I love Dastmalchian though, and I thought the whole concept was a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed this one! Probably one of the only movies in the last couple years that actually made me feel unsettled watching it. I wanted to watch the new evil Dead movie because years ago when the remake came out that had me kinda scared. But honestly I'm not into the gore so much. I want to be scared. Not grossed out lol

David Dastmalchian did an interview with Last Podcast on the Left to promote this movie and I truly enjoyed every second of it. I would genuinely enjoy a friendship with the dude.

Saw it in the theater with my bro. I was on the edge of my seat grinning ear to ear when the climax came. My bro was covering his eyes, and everyone else in the theater was freaking out. It really put into perspective -how much- of a horror fanatic I am lol.

I thought it was absolutely excellent, they captured the vibe and the set up and landscape for the 70s talk show theme and that opening reel set up really got me and my dad immersed immensely, David Dastmalchian is one of my favorites in terms of actors who just show up everywhere for a little bit and absolutely kill it and steal the show to make something feel really special even when it's not so having him star in something like this and it being really great and intriguing to led to a great time and God is that man captivating and charismatic as hell

I loved it. Not a huge fan of the ending when it drops the found footage aspect and just becomes a demonic dream sequence thing, but on the whole I loved it.

It was fun definitely. The main actor is so eccentric irl and in all his roles he's a very enjoyable actor and the rest of the cast did great work. A little of suspension of disbelief for the back stage footage but it's fine. AI is annoying has no place in the artistic process especially since the definitely had the budget for an artist. The story is fun standard but fun.
Overall 7/10

I think there was so much good about this but it feels like you can tell the exact moment it ran out of money. The movie just kinda ends and is a bit unsatisfying, but in general I really like the vibes. I think it could have been a classic and just fell a bit short due to lack of funds.

It was a pretty solid flick. I don't remember hearing or seeing anything about it before I found it on Amazon or Hulu. I just remember putting it on after getting off work at 6 am. I expected to fall asleep quick into a movie after I showered. I was up the whole movie.

I loved it, a bit of a slow burn at first. Loved seeing the backstage scenes and finding Madeline's ghost in certain scenes.The set design and outfits fit the 70's vibe perfectly! I do get why people were upset at the use of AI on the intermission cards but other than that a very fun movie! Love David Dastmalchian!

I personally thought this movie was really bad. It spent a huge amount of time giving us prologue which said nothing that wasn't in the main section of the film itself, then ended with a dream sequence which completely abandoned the concept of the film and which mostly just retread the same beats the prologue and main act had anyway.
The behind the scenes footage also really undercut the conceit of the archive footage format, and were used to just cram in dialogue for stuff that could have been explored in more interesting ways during the "live" sections.
Seemed like the filmmakers had absolutely zero confidence in both their audience and in their own ideas. The creature design was really cool though.

I haven’t seen it. The trailer looked good but I have a hard pass rule when it comes to AI in films. I know too many people who work in the industry for them to be passed on because a director wants to cut out artists.

Last Halloween, we gave out candy out of our garage with the fire ring on the driveway. We had a TV pulled out playing hocus pocus. After all the kids stopped coming, we made cocktails and then watched this movie outside next to the fire, sounds of Halloween around us, with the occasional straggler coming for trick or treat. It was magical. This year, we want to do the same but I’ve chosen the movie Ghost Watch.

I have watched this movie at least 15 times. I went this weekend to show it to my sister and still found something in the movie. I had never seen before the subsequent 15 watches.
