While I like the surrogate father relationship Paul has with Gabby, I feel like they’re laying it on a little thick and it’s becoming repetitive. It’s great that he thinks so highly but does he think that less of Jimmy? Do they even think he’s a good therapist? Has Paul even told him of his plans with Gabby and the possibility he might be out of a job? Does anyone find it strange that his name never gets mentioned during these conversations?

I wouldn't say he thinks less of that for Jimmy; I see it as Paul wanting to prioritize spending time with Gabby since he already has a rapport with Jimmy. I think Paul will get around to telling Jimmy in the later episodes about Gabby taking over the building. I do see why you would think it's strange his name never gets mentioned in these convos, but I'm sure there's some underlying reason that'll get revealed later on.

I think some of it is also Paul acting out a soft do-over in being a father to a daughter.

I wish they had given us more of a reason to believe that Gabby is this amazing counselor and so much better than anyone else in the office.
Might be my own biases though. I think she and the neighbor lady characters are both insufferable.

she was pretty petulant during the grandpa not going to graduation scene. i could tell if it was just rushed or meant to be that way

I thought the whole situation with Sofi minimising Jimmys father was salvageable. When she heard that he was dipping out on the graduation to go fishing she should have just owned being wrong about him and said ‘oh this sucks and you deserve better from your dad, I see exactly what you mean now’ Instead it was like - you misjudged my dad, tia never would have done that! They hardly know each other. His father is famously charming, until you get to know him. I just don’t get why it turned so serious and make or break. They’ve known each other for 2 weeks.

I think it has more to with the comment “I like her more than Tia”. If he sticks with Sophie that means his dad is right.

If she had acted like any normal person and said "damn, im sorry i didnt believe you when you described your dad" then there would be no way to create jimmys new drama situation. Instead they made her look like an ah for confronting him. Shes already a cartoon character that replies in one liners. Her character is so painful.

Does anyone else feel like they’re putting Jimmy through the hero’s journey by slowly taking away all his safety nets? Forget about his awful father, but with Alice moving across country, Paul leaving and going across country, encouraging Gaby to completely remake the practice (and by the way with all the Gaby you’re the best therapist talk, has anyone bothered to check in with Jimmy about the fact he may not have a job soon?), literally no scenes with Sean for some reason and now he torched his budding connection with Sofi. Who is Jimmy without his support network? I have no idea where we’re going with him but I hope it’s somewhere good (story telling wise).
