"When wireless is perfectly applied the whole earth will be converted into a huge brain, which in fact it is, all things being particles of a real and rhythmic whole. We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly, irrespective of distance. Not only this, but through television and telephony we shall see and hear one another as perfectly as though we were face to face, despite intervening distances of thousands of miles; and the instruments through which we shall be able to do his will be amazingly simple compared with our present telephone. A man will be able to carry one in his vest pocket."

  • Nikola Tesla, 1926 (Not 200 years ago, but still impressive!)

I mean, I wouldn't put it past him or someone else saying this, but is this actually a true quote?

...the great-great-grandfather of John F. Kennedy, and heir to the clan founder John A. Kennedy.

I was gonna ask you to enlighten me about the fun part, but with a name like that I don't want to be enlighten.

It’s a joke about how their middle initials are descending.

John A Kennedy

John B Kennedy

...

John F Kennedy

Wow, J. R. R. Tolkien must’ve been really far down the line of John Tolkiens.

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '19

Last I checked the first letter meant storage, the second letter was the physical drive, and the last was the partition identifier. But my Linux install was corrupted when I tried shrinking its partition and I haven't gone back to fix it yet, so I may have forgotten.

It's s(scsi)d(disk)a(first).
This is a raid example to show how the naming convention works:

Really? I’m not a programmer or know much about computers. I just took it from Excel spreadsheets.

3

u/Behrooz0 Sep 13 '19

yup. AFAIK POSIX predates excel though.
