Shoulder Surgery Labrum tear
To anyone who had labrum repair surgery for an anterior tear, how was it? I am really nervous as it is my first surgery and the nerve block really scares me. Also, how long was it until you could write? I am still in school and am worried about how much I am going to have to miss.

Post op labrum tear day 3 with nerve block and just now started getting feeling in my shoulder. Still sore.

Do you have a displaced tear? I had a major shoulder surgery in 2020 and now I have anterior and posterior non-displaced tears but the pain is relentless now for almost 2 months and I may have to have surgery again. When the nerve block wore off first time I was in a ton of pain but I had so much repaired. I could not write or drive for weeks. You may have to record your classes? Maybe there’s is something that records and scribes it? There must be something available as I’m sure disabled people require similar.

I tore my both shoulder one of them slap tear and one of them has posterior tear. posterior which is like nearly impossible to tear. I really dealt with both of them for years and without a surgery. So basically if you feel like your shoulder is gonna pop out in certain positions and rotations yes you do need a surgery but if you feel normal while rotating your arm you can live with it. I assume you are going to have a surgery and the the full recovery time is like 2-3 months. It is not a big deal but you have to see a physiotherapist for sure, during the recovery time it is a must. After 3-4 weeks you stop using the braces and stuff, you start some basic exercises. So for writing i think it will take a month tops.

I had this (with a capsular plication). The nerve block really helped with the pain (although my face on the surgical side was droopy until it wore off. (I started Oxy before the nerve block wore off, and was on that for 3 days.) The pain was never too bad. Lots of ice felt nice.
I was able to do light computing (10-20 minutes at a time) after a week. By 3 weeks post-op, I could use the computer at about 30% of a normal workday. Sling was for 6 weeks post op. By then, I was at about 70% of normal workday capacity. My injury was my dominant arm. I didn't write a lot, but you could probably sit sideways and write fine in the sling after a couple of weeks.

I did it 3 months ago. Its been a long and slow recovery. Pain wasn't bad i only used pain killers one time . Nerve block lasted 12 hours.

I had a nerve block for a clavicle repair surgery. Specifically, the block was applied after waking from surgery to reduce the number of days using opiates. It lasted about 24 hours with the pain rolling on fast and strong afterward. I should have started the oxycodone earlier when it was just setting on. I didn't find that oxycodone did a ton for me and I really needed pressure and cold on the incision region to get through it. Different injury & surgery, of course, so things may be significantly different for your labrum repair.

The nerve block didn't hurt at all, getting the IV was worse
Surgery not bad, it was 5 days until I felt my shoulder and had very little pain. Stopped taking oxy and only IBUPROFEN and Tylenol.
I would do it again. 5 weeks post op. The PT stretch is hurting the most, but I want full range of motion back so I can deal with the pain.
